Today CoComelon offers education for children through song, dance, and colorful animation. But how was CoComelon started and how did it turn into the edutainment powerhouse it is today?
CoComelon’s Youtube channel, then known as ABC Kid TV, was launched in 2006 by Jay Jeon.
Jeon’s first video, linked above, stemmed from efforts to teach his own kids the alphabet. Since then, CoComelon has grown to be a leader in children’s education–ranking third in Youtube subscriptions with over 195 million monthly subscribers.
Among other things, CoComelon is well-known for their computer animation, which features rounded shapes and eye-catching colors. Even amongst animal characters, it is clear when a character is a part of the CoComelon universe.

In 2018, Jeon introduced a a recurring cast of characters which feature in CoComelon’s Youtube videos and on television. Since then, there have been several spin-off series beginning with eponymous CoComelon, which began airing on Netflix in 2021.
Later spin-offs include Nina’s Familia, It’s Cody Time, CoComelon Lane, and CoComelon Classroom, with the latter two departing from CoComelon’s hallmark singalong style in favor of narrative-driven TV.

CoComelon offers tips to parents through their Youtube segment “CoComelon Can Help.”
